Mark Duggan, ANZ’s first and only SolidWorks Elite Application Engineer
The name Mark Duggan will be familiar to many of our customers, most of whom would have been in contact with Mark at one point or another for support, advice or ideas on how to get the most from their SolidWorks investment.
As Intercad's Support Team Leader, and with more than 20 years of CAD experience, Mark is uniquely positioned to advise not only our Australian and New Zealand customers, but also our entire team of application engineers.
In fact, late last year, Mark was awarded the highest honour attainable from SolidWorks - the coveted SolidWorks Elite Application Engineer (SEAE) award. He is currently the only SEAE in Australia and New Zealand, and one of a relatively small group of individuals to have achieved this level of recognition anywhere in the world.
Aside from attaining seven SolidWorks certifications (the basic requirement for an SEAE award), Mark has also been involved in writing articles and presenting web training for SolidWorks to other professionals, and is heavily invested in his commitment to, in his own words, "give back to the SolidWorks community".

"It's a privilege to have been nominated by Intercad for the award, and then to be recognised by SolidWorks for my work over the years," he says. "Intercad was established on the basis of adding value to our technology platforms with professional consulting, training and support services. Our long-held objective is to help our customers make the most of their investment in MCAE systems by making sure those systems, and our related services, solve real business issues. By enabling our customers to realise the full potential of their SolidWorks software we can add real value to the SolidWorks community.
"Importantly for me, the extra recognition that comes with an SEAE accreditation means customers know they can trust Intercad to provide the highest level of support locally and we have direct access to the SolidWorks development team when we need it. Together we can provide the more advanced resources needed to make our customers more productive, better-aligning their design objectives with their business objectives, and so improving their ROI."
Intercad has the largest dedicated and certified SolidWorks support team in the region.
"As a team we take a holistic approach to supporting not only SolidWorks but also the associated software products in areas such as FEA and PDM," Mark says. "We first ensure that SolidWorks and the other programs are the right tools for our customers' needs, then find new ways to shorten the learning curve to make them productive faster. I've always felt that it's not just about the software, but how you use it and who supports it, which makes the biggest difference to the business."
Beginning his career as an apprentice fitter and machinist, before progressing to the design office, where he was directly involved with locomotive and freight wagon design. After 12 years he moved to the food industry, where he designed and developed freezer and conveyor systems as part of the project engineering team. A short spell in vehicle design then followed, before he joined Intercad in 2003.
